2 Hindu girls granted protection after being forcibly converted into Islam

Pakistan – 2 Hindu girls, Raveena (13) and Reena (15) were kidnapped from their home in Ghotki district of Sindh by a group of men who called them ‘influencers’. The incident happened on Holi. A video of the two girls being forced into a Nikah went viral which then resulted in people outraged by the event nationwide. The sisters who also are minor were converted to Islam by the group of ‘influencers’

The girls had filed a petition seeking protection after which The Islamabad High Court issued the order on Tuesday. The case of the controversy was heard by Chief Justice Athar Minallah and the custody of the girls was handed over to deputy commissioner Islamabad and director general human rights. A woman SP (Superintendent Police) was ordered to be with the girls in order to ensure their safety.

An investigation report has been demanded by the court before April 2 and further decisions will be taken on the basis of it. The court also made a note that Prime Minister Imran Khan has asked the authorities to ascertain if the girls were forced into marriage and conversion. The first complaint of the matter was lodged by the family members of the girls on March 20 against conversion of the girls into Islam forcibily.
