Man from Coimbatore finds piece of steel wire in tablet
Tamil Nadu Drugs Control Department lifts samples from the antibiotic drug
The Tamil Nadu Drugs Control Department lifted samples of an antibiotic drug for laboratory examination after a piece of steel wire was reportedly found in one of the tablets here on Wednesday.
The samples were collected after a piece of steel wire was found in a Ofloxacin and Ornidazole tablet purchased by a man from a pharmacy at Karumbukkadai.
Officials with the Drugs Control Department said that multiple samples of the drug, all manufactured under the same batch number, including the tablet in which the piece of wire was found, were lifted for examination.
“The samples were collected based on instructions from higher officials. They will be sent to the Government Drugs Testing Laboratory at Teynampet in Chennai for analysis,” said S. Gurubharathi, Assistant Director of Drugs Control, Coimbatore zone.
Kaja Hussain of Karumbukkadai, who bought the drug for his friend, claimed that the piece of wire was protruding from the tablet as it was taken out from the strip.
“A portion of the wire was found stuck in the tablet. A complaint was lodged with the Health Department,” he said.
