Four college students run over by train near Coimbatore

Four college students were fatally run over by a train near Sulur in Coimbatore in the early hours of Thursday. Their bodies were found on the track.
One more student was found lying with injuries near the railway track and was admitted to the Coimbatore Government College Hospital.
The accident took place on a railway track between Sulur and Irugur railway stations. According to GRP officials, they were run over by Alappuzha-Chennai Express (22640) which crossed the stretch between 10.15 p.m. and 11 p.m.
The Government Railway Police identified the deceased as Sothik Raja (22) from Kodaikanal, Rajasekar (22) from Nilakottai, Karupusami (22) and Gowtham (22) from Rajapalayam. The fifth student, named Visvanesh (22) from Theni, was found injured near the track.
The injured and the deceased were found around 1.45 a.m. on Thursday. The bodies were shifted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
While Sothik Raja and Rajasekar were doing final year civil engineering in a private college at Sulur, Karuppusamy and Gowtham, are also from the same college, had come to write arrear examinations.
A case has been registered at the GRP station, Podanur, in connection with the accident.
