Four youths die as car rams roadside tree near Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Four youths died when a car they were travelling in rammed a roadside tree at Kalaiyanur in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Friday.

A youth, who suffered severe injuries in the accident, was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital.

Police said the youths celebrated one of their friend’s birthday on Thursday night and went for a long drive in the early hours of Friday when the accident happened.

The deceased have been identified as S Indhiresh, 22, of Seeranaickenpalayam, R Karthik Raju, 22 of Flower Market, V Mohan Hari, 23, of Kasthurinaickenpalayam in Vadavalli and N Manikandan, 22 of North Coimbatore.

Indhiresh was studying an undergraduate course (international business) in a private college. Karthik Raju, who discontinued B Com (computer application), was into real estate business. Mohan Hari discontinued his studies and worked at a textile shop. Manikandan completed his diploma in automobile engineering and was trying for a job.

R Prajesh, 22, of North Coimbatore, who suffered injuries, was studying with Indhiresh, police said.

On Thursday night, they visited their friend Venkatesh’s home at Kavundampalayam to celebrate his birthday. Later, they went for a long drive in a car. Indhiresh drove the car in rash and negligent manner, according to police.

When they were traveling on Coimbatore-Anaikatti road, Indhiresh lost the control of the car and rammed a roadside tree near a private hospital at Kalaiyanur. The accident happened around 4am.

Indhiresh and three other youths died on the spot. Prajesh suffered severe injuries on his chest.

On being alerted by other motorists, the Thadagam police rushed to the spot.

 Further investigations were on.
