The ‘Cauvery Calling’ campaign launched by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, founder of Isha Foundation, reached Hosur and Dharmapuri on Wednesday.

Sadhguru has embarked on a motorcycle rally along the Cauvery basin, starting from Talacauvery, to save the river. The campaign completed its first leg in Bengaluru and reached Hosur and Dharmapuri on Tuesday.

District Collector S. Prabhakar, former Lok Sabha deputy speaker M. Thambidurai, Hosur MLA S.A.Sathya, Krishnagiri MP A. Chellakumar took part in the event held in Hosur.

Mr.Thambidurai appreciated the efforts of the Foundation and said that the State government would extend cooperation for planting 242 crore saplings.

Higher Education Minister K.P. Anbazhaghan and Chairman of Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Association Chinnasamy took part in the event held in Dharmapuri.

Sadhguru said it was essential to adopt agroforestry to restore soil health. “In one acre of soil rich in organic content, we can save 60,000 litres of water. If you take a handful of fertile south Indian soil, there will be 10,000 to 50,000 micro-organisms. We have changed this fertile soil into desert sand”, he said.

He said nearly 3 lakh farmers had committed suicide in the last 20 years in the country and the death toll was higher than that of lives lost in wars India had with Pakistan and China.

He added that farmers would not have to commit suicide if quality soil and sufficient water were available.
