CM M K Stalin Virtually Unveils Three Smart Projects in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Chief Minister M K Stalin, in a virtual ceremony held on Friday, inaugurated three significant smart city projects in Coimbatore. The projects include a Knowledge Centre cum Library on Addis Street, an Experience Centre at Ukkadam Periyakulam, and an imposing Thiruvalluvar statue at Kurichi Lake.

Project Details and Costs:

  1. Knowledge Centre cum Library:
    • Cost: ₹2.5 crore
    • Spans: 6,983 sq ft
    • Features: Capacity for over 100 people, 18,000+ books, two air-conditioned smart classrooms, a conference hall, 15 computers, parking lot, cafeteria, and toilets.
    • Purpose: Designed to benefit students preparing for competitive exams.
  2. Experience Centre at Periyakulam Lake:
    • Cost: ₹2.98 crore
    • Facilities: Open 3D movie theatre, 3D sports zone for children, and zip cycling facility.
  3. Thiruvalluvar Statue at Kurichi Lake:
    • Height: 25ft
    • Material: Three tonnes of steel
    • Unique Feature: Sculptured with 1,330 Tamil letters, symbolizing the poet’s 1,330 kural couplets.
    • Lake Theme: Kurichi lake restoration around the theme of Tamil heritage, featuring installations depicting bharatanatyam, silambattam, bommalattam, and jallikattu.

Significance and Features:

  • The Knowledge Centre aims to provide a modern learning environment for students with comprehensive facilities.
  • The Experience Centre at Periyakulam Lake offers entertainment and recreational amenities for children, including a 3D movie theatre and sports zone.
  • The Thiruvalluvar Statue stands tall as a tribute to the Tamil poet, adorned with Tamil letters representing his literary contributions.

Dignitaries Present:

The virtual inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed individuals, including District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, City Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran, senior government officials, and corporation councillors.

Coimbatore embraces these smart city projects, showcasing the commitment to modernization and cultural heritage preservation. The initiatives underline the city’s dedication to creating spaces that cater to education, entertainment, and artistic expression.
