The Indian Consulate in Chicago has taken a firm stance on the tragic death of Indian dancer Amarnath Ghosh in St Louis, Missouri, actively pursuing the case with local authorities.

Expressing profound condolences to Ghosh’s family and friends, the consulate affirmed its commitment to facilitating forensic investigation and supporting the ongoing police inquiry.

In a social media announcement, the Indian Consulate in Chicago stated, “Deep condolences to family & friends of deceased Amarnath Ghosh in St Louis, Missouri. We are following up forensic investigation with police & providing support.”

Additionally, the consulate assured full assistance to the relatives of the deceased dancer, emphasizing that they have strongly advocated for a thorough investigation into the reprehensible gun attack with the St Louis police and the University.

The incident came to light through television actor Devoleena Bhattacharjee, who disclosed that her close friend, Amarnath Ghosh, fell victim to a fatal shooting in St Louis. Bhattacharjee urged the Indian Embassy and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to intervene and initiate a comprehensive inquiry into the matter.

Hailing from Kolkata, Ghosh was pursuing a PhD in the United States. Tragically, both of his parents had already passed away, revealed the actor.

According to Bhattacharjee, Ghosh was attacked multiple times by an unidentified assailant while taking an evening walk in the St Louis Academy neighborhood.

This devastating incident adds to a series of reported deaths involving Indian nationals in the United States during the first two months of 2024.
