A14-year-old girl, who went missing from her home on December 11, was found dead on Thursday. Kirthika was reportedly alone at her house when she went missing.

Reports said that her mother, Kalaivani, a daily wage labourer, had gone to work when the suspected kidnapping occurred. After a frantic search, the family filed a complaint at the Coimbatore East all-women police station on December 13.

The body was found stuffed in a sack in area under the Saravanampatti police station. Her hands and legs were tied. The police later established her identity during investigation.

As per the First Information Report (FIR), Kalaivani, whose husband left her eight months ago, has been living with her two daughters and working as a daily wage labourer. The elder daughter has also been working at a textile store, and the second child the Kirthika was studying at a government school.

The police have sent the body for postmortem to the Coimbatore medical college hospital. An investigation is underway to find the person involved in the crime and the motive behind it.

Police said they were waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain if the minor was sexually assaulted.

Victim’s mother said she began searching for Kirthika when she did not find her after she returned home on December 11. The FIR said the girl’s mobile phone was switched off and a mobile shop owner was the last person to see her that day.
