A disturbing video capturing a wild tusker being chased by a vehicle inside the Anaimalai Reserve Forest in Tamil Nadu has ignited fury among environmental activists. The footage, which swiftly went viral, depicts a reckless pursuit that has drawn condemnation from conservationists.

The video, circulating widely, reveals a wild tusker being relentlessly pursued by individuals within the confines of the Anaimalai Reserve Forest in Pollachi, Tamil Nadu. The distressing scene has prompted calls for swift and decisive action against those responsible.

According to wildlife observers within the Reserve Forest, the video was recorded along the Navamalai road, a route subject to vehicle restrictions after 6 pm due to its passage through the core Tiger Reserve. In the footage, a vehicle bearing an AIADMK flag can be seen in hot pursuit of the wild tusker, its frantic tail movements betraying its unease as it seeks refuge amidst the foliage.

Forest officials have identified Mithun Mathi, an AIADMK cadre, as the individual who posted the incriminating video on his Instagram Reel story. It has been alleged that Mathi was driving the vehicle along a restricted road segment within the forest, inaccessible to the general public.

Environmental advocates have vehemently denounced the incident, calling for punitive measures under Section 9 of the Wildlife Protection Act, which deems such actions as tantamount to hunting and carries the risk of imprisonment. The Indian Elephant, a cherished and protected species, demands stringent safeguards against human encroachment and exploitation.

The gravity of the situation has prompted intervention from the State Chief Wildlife Warden, Srinivas Reddy, who has pledged to address the matter with the seriousness it warrants. Assurances of decisive action offer a glimmer of hope for justice amid the outcry of concern and condemnation.
