In a heart-warming gesture, Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran on Friday handed over special shoes to three-year-old Alagumani, assisted him in walking and later carried the boy back to his parents.

The video of Alagumani’s father Velmurugan seeking government help came to the notice of the Collector recently.

Velmurugan, a specially abled man, lost his livelihood during the pandemic. He reached out to the district collector for assistance on July 5.

In his plea, he said, “Due to the pandemic, my small shop has been non-functional. My family and I have been suffering. We have no option but to die if the government doesn’t help us.”

Velmurugan’s family was in for a surprise today when the Collector came to meet them. He then handed over shoes for people with special needs to Velmurugan and his son Alagumani.
