Coimbatore: A six-member gang barged into a room at Muthu Nagar near Eachanari and robbed three laptops and eight mobile phones from seven youths after assaulting them with iron rods in the wee hours of Sunday. The Sundarapuram police have formed three special teams to nab the robbers.

K Dinesh, 19, a supplier in a hotel and a native of Kamakur village in Tiruvannamalai district, lodged a complaint with the Sundarapuram police on Sunday afternoon. He stated in his complaint that he was staying along with six friends in a rented room at Muthu Nagar.

He and his friends were asleep on Sunday night. Around 3am, a six-member gang entered the room with iron rods and wires and assaulted the seven youths.

Police said that the gang asked the youths to hand over their cash. When the youths said that they do not have any cash, the robbers took away three laptops and eight mobile phones, police said.

“Two youths – N Alwar, 21, from Muthu Nagar in Thoothukudi and B Karan, 19, from Bodinayakanur in Theni district – suffered injuries and were treated as outpatients in a clinic,” an investigating officer said.

Based on Dinesh’s complaint, the Sundarapuram police registered a case against the six-member gang. Three special teams led by sub-inspector Rakkiyappan were formed to nab the gang.
