Coimbatore: Tragedy struck once again as a male elephant fell victim to electrocution on private land in Poochiyur, Coimbatore district. This heartbreaking incident marks the fifth such occurrence in Tamil Nadu in just one month, raising alarm bells regarding the safety and well-being of the state’s elephant population.

The incident comes merely two days after the Madras High Court summoned the principal chief conservator of forests and TANGEDCO chairman to provide an explanation for the recent electrocution of four elephants in Dharmapuri district. The recurring nature of these incidents underscores the urgency for comprehensive measures to protect these majestic creatures.

Disturbing images from the scene depict the lifeless body of the elephant sprawled on the ground, a stark reminder of the dangers these animals face in the vicinity of electric poles.
