A tragic incident unfolded in Coimbatore on Monday when a 35-year-old woman, Thilagavathy, died in police custody after being arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a toddler. The Tamil Nadu Police tracked Thilagavathy using CCTV footage, which showed her carrying the 18-month-old baby.

During the interrogation of Thilagavathy and her husband Pandian, she fainted and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

The case began when Coimbatore couple Rathi and Muthuraj reported their child missing five days ago during a visit to the Thiruchendur temple. According to the couple, Thilagavathy and her husband had accompanied them to the temple. Shortly after, both the toddler and Thilagavathy disappeared.

Following her arrest, the toddler was safely rescued from her husband’s relatives in Salem. The incident has raised questions about the circumstances leading to Thilagavathy’s death and the handling of the case by the authorities.
